If you’re like most parents, your camera roll is probably full of your kids… without you in them. I hear it all the time. “I’m always the one taking the photos.” “I don’t like how I look.” “I just wasn’t ready.” And suddenly years pass and there are barely any pictures that show you with your kids.
Let’s change that.
Here are a few easy ways to start being more present in your family’s photo memories:
Set a reminder once a month
This sounds so simple, but it works. Set a calendar reminder to take one photo with your kids. Not of them, with them. It doesn’t need to be fancy or even posed. Just real life. Snuggled on the couch, making dinner together, playing in the backyard. Whatever feels like your everyday.
Say yes when someone offers to take a photo
Even if you’re not “photo ready.” Even if your hair’s a mess or you’re wearing your oldest sweatshirt. Say yes. One day that picture will mean the world to your child, and they won’t care about what you were wearing. They’ll just be happy to see you
Schedule a session where YOU get to be in them, too
This is where I come in. When you visit my Sinking Spring studio for a family photo experience, it’s not just about getting a picture of the kids. It’s about capturing connection, personality, and those little in-between moments that are impossible to stage. You’ll leave with images that include you, not just the ones you snapped from the sidelines.
As a Berks County family photographer, my goal is always to make sure parents walk away feeling seen and included. Your kids will thank you someday for being in those photos. And honestly? You’ll be glad you said yes to being part of them too.
