We live in a world where nearly everything is digital. Photos get snapped, posted online, and then buried under thousands more in phones. Most photographers today hand over a download link and call it a day, but that’s not something I’ll ever do. Families who come to my Sinking Spring studio walk out with printed photos they can hold, display, and pass down through generations. Prints are the part that lasts.
Think about your phone. How many photos do you have sitting in there right now? Hundreds? Thousands? Probably more. The reality is, your camera roll is packed with clutter. Ten takes of the same pose, three with someone blinking, and even some that leave you asking yourself, “what was I even trying to photograph here?!”. The problem is, once they are taken, they just sit there. You scroll past them a few times, maybe post one on social media, and then forget about them. Printed photos are different. You see them every day when you walk through your home. They remind you of a stage in life you never want to lose.
When I create photos for families in Berks County, I do it with the finished print in mind. I picture that photo hanging in your living room or sitting in an album your kids will flip through years later. A file on a hard drive cannot do that. Files get lost, phones crash, and technology changes. A printed photo is something you can hold in your hands and pass down through generations.
Parents often tell me how much they love the reveal part of their session. Instead of a download link, they sit down, see the photos big and beautiful, and pick the ones that speak to them most. Then we turn those favorites into wall art, albums, or keepsakes they will enjoy every day. It is an experience that makes the photos feel even more meaningful.
The truth is, prints outlive trends and technology. They do not get lost in a shuffle of files. They do not rely on a password or a cloud account. Printed photos are right there in your home, ready to spark memories, start conversations, and remind you of the people you love most.
This is why I will always believe in prints. They are not an extra, they are the point. Long after the digitals are forgotten or lost, the printed photos are the ones your family will keep turning back to.
