What exactly is a Dream Dress?
A dream dress, otherwise known in the industry as a couture gown, isn’t your run of the mill dress found in big box stores. These custom gowns typically retail for $300-1000 and only a limited number of each design is released, with some dresses in my studio closet being one of a kind. Extra caution is needed when caring for and wearing these dresses, as they are completely irreplaceable. Once a gown is damaged, it is unlikely that it will be able to be repaired.
Unlike other dresses, these custom gowns are incredibly flexible in sizing. For example, a girls’ 8 has been worn by ages 5-10! Each dress has many layers of tulle, creating a super full look. To avoid scratchiness when worn, a soft layer of fabric is sewn in, so tulle never touches the skin.
Before each session, dresses are carefully steamed and fluffed, to achieve the fullest look.
How to prepare your daughter’s experience
Prior to leaving the house, be sure to remove any temporary tattoos, old bandaids – and yes, markers on hands. To avoid damage, food and drinks are not allowed near the dresses, so please wait to enjoy snacks until after her experience is completed.
Some girls love a little extra primping the morning of their session, with hair styled and makeup, just be sure to keep the makeup light. For easy changing, it is recommended to wear shorts and a tank (of course this may be worn under street clothes). No need to worry about shoes, most sessions are done barefoot!
Her Experience
On average, The Dream Dress Experience at my Sinking Spring photo studio runs about 45 minutes. New atmospheres can sometimes feel intimidating, so a bit of extra time is included during each session to help your little girl become comfortable. That being said, no need to worry about watching the door for when my next client arrives. Plenty of time is set aside to ensure that you and your daughter have the most relaxing and comfortable experience.
Once you are settled in, your daughter will enter the photo room and be greeted with fun dancing music and a her gorgeous pre-chosen dress! You may even want to surprise her by keeping the dress a secret, letting her open the separate door into the studio and seeing her dream dress awaiting her!
As she twirls and dances in the designer couture gown, we’ll take time to talk about some of her favorite topics, such as sports or school. My goal to give focus not only to her child side, but also her intellect and inner beauty, as well as gently touching on her insecurities. I want to create gorgeous photos of your baby, but most importantly, I want her to leave the studio feeling the most confident she has ever felt in her life.
Your Experience
While I understand that many family members may want to attend, to avoid distractions, I do suggest limiting the number of people who come to the studio. Children are usually most themselves when they don’t think mom or dad are watching. This is the time when true personality shines and smiles become genuine. Your daughter will be within view of the cozy couch, so you’ll be able to discreetly watch on as she enjoys the experience of a lifetime. In between glances of watching your little girl twirl in her gown, you’ll be able to relax while sipping on your favorite beverage and catching up on an episode or two of your favorite tv show (or nap…I’ll gently wake you when we’re done!).
Reliving the Experience
Following her Dream Dress Experience, we’ll schedule a time for you Photo Reveal After Party. Together you will select your favorite images, to not be merely shared for a quick glimpse on social media, but for your daughter to gaze at on her wall. These photos will serve as a constant reminder of a day when she felt truly confident and beautiful in her own skin.
